What documents do I need to rent a car?
You will need a valid physical full driver's licence, and a credit card in your name for payment and security purposes. A screen of your driving licence is not acceptable.


How old Do I have to be to rent a car.
We rent our vehicles to customer’s 21 years of age and older.


Why Do I Need A Credit Card?
We require a credit card to secure your booking. We hold this credit card on file – and will only charge it in the unlikely case of an accident or infringement. In case of an accident you will be charged up to NZ $2500 as an excess. If you have taken out additional insurance with us however, you will only be charged the amount agreed to under your selected insurance option.


What is the fuel policy?
Full-to-full policy meaning you receive the car fully fuelled and you return the vehicle fully fuelled. All of our vehicles are 91 Unleaded fuel.


Can I add an additional driver to the rental agreement and is there a cost?
Yes, you can add up to 2 additional drivers to the rental agreement and that is free of charge. Any additional driver(s) must hold a valid physical full driver's licence.


Coverage options
We have three excess cover options available;

Basic Cover
All cars hired by GoldStar Car Rentals include standard motor vehicle Insurance for no extra charge. This means that in the unfortunate event that the rental vehicle is involved in an accident or is damaged, you are liable for the associated excess value to cover any damage costs. As the renter, you are liable for the excess regardless of whether you are 'at fault' or not.

GoldStar Standard Cover
To purchase this excess cover it comes at a cost of $19 per day and reduces your excess liability to $500. As the renter, you are liable for the excess regardless of whether you are 'at fault' or not.

GoldStar Full Cover
To purchase this full excess cover it comes at a cost of $25 per day and reduces your excess liability to $0 meaning there’s no charge for any damage to the vehicle, tyres, or glass damage and waives any liability for theft or loss of the vehicle.


Is there a km travel restriction on the vehicles?
Unlimited kilometres are included in your hire.


What should I do if the car breaks down?
All of our vehicles are covered by AA 24-hour roadside assistance for any mechanical breakdown. In the event that you need AA roadside assistance, please contact:

You will be asked for the car registration number.
For any roadside assistance call-outs that are not related to mechanical faults of the vehicle, that include (but are not limited to) refuelling low petrol tank or empty tank level, jump-starting the vehicle, lost keys or keys locked in the vehicle, a service surcharge fee will be charged unless otherwise stated by GoldStar Car Rentals.
